On May 28th, URBN’s design apprentices, part of the pilot Made to Measure Apprenticeship Program with Drexel University, presented their final garments after two years of rotations working alongside teams at Free People, Anthropologie, and Urban Outfitters.
Throughout the program, apprentices followed a tailored curriculum pairing mentorship with real-world design work, balancing hands-on projects and rotations to create garments that captured URBN’s unique brand styles. The showcase celebrated their creativity and dedication, giving them a chance to share their work and insights with supporters.
Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design created four academic certificates specifically for the program: Fashion Foundation, Design Foundations, Fashion Illustration, and Fashion Design. Academic coursework included classes focused on pattern making, surface design, fashion drawing, construction skills, textile science, figure drawing, and more.
The program included three rotations, each with a project designed to demonstrate design competency and skill — all showcased at the end of each rotation. Apprentices also completed an 8-week hands-on training series focused on developing design skills in CLO 3D and AI.
Select apprentices participated in Drexel’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design’s annual Garbage Gala in May 2024. Eden Miller was named one of the top 10 finalists!
Thank you to Drexel University for this wonderful partnership, and to all of the talented students who joined us!
