In December 2015, URBN took part in Operation Brotherly Love (OBL) Holiday Carnival and Rally, a community event that provides thousands of Philadelphia-based children, whose families are struggling around Christmas, a very special afternoon of carnival games, dancing, entertainment, gifts, food and fun. Over 750 families representing 2,000 children packed into Lincoln Financial Field to celebrate the season, and to receive a brand new coat, hat, pair of gloves, scarf and present.
For the event, URBN collected approximately 2,000 gloves and mittens at its annual holiday party, all of which were donated to OBL. URBN also provided 1,200 t-shirts for volunteers and 700 presents for parents' gift bags. At the event, over 50 employees volunteered as face painters, temporary tattoo artists, family hosts and BIGS matching with their LITTLES from our Big Brothers Big Sisters Program.
The bond that is built that afternoon, and the time children spend with their families and volunteers leaves an indelible impression. Parents of the receiving children are so thankful to see their children get winter gear and ‘receiving’ children say they cannot wait to get older to give back to their community. Overall, everyone learns the lesson of giving back, and many go on to do other volunteering efforts throughout the year.
